iona now has teeth(two on the bottom, two coming in on the top..)...it is strange to me what a transformation it makes in her face and often, as they are still coming in, her demeanor..she has also, like herbie the elf, become fascinated with teeth...given the opportunity she will shove her tiny fingers into my mouth to explore what must be the finished product (her technique quite like many dentists i have visited) and she will snatch the toothbrush away and happily chew on it (which i am sure will not be the case when she actually needs to brush her new chompers...)..she has already become more adept at chewing and thus her diet has expended to include more crunchy things (which before teeth were enjoyable for here but stressful for us) and i am thrilled that as a still nursing mom she is thus far using her biting powers for good...
the downside, of course, new teeth hurt! i vaguely recall the appearance of my wisdom teeth in my early twenties and it was unpleasant so i feel bad for the girl...sleep has been a rare commodity in our house of late but there is plenty of oragel baby (now thats a party)...thanks to matt's ability to cast some sort of strange sleep spell on her we all got 5 hours last night...hopefully we have turned a corner (but not the corner to bitetown)...
we recently returned from visiting family in said warm south (which is the main reason the winter doesn't seem so long)...it was great to see everyone and iona cultivated her love for toys that sing songs (none of which can be found at our house)..my uncle holds the prize for producing the most annoying and amazing one - a 2.5 foot chili pepper that sings 'hot, hot, hot' while it dances and plays the maracas..it is truly a marvel of modern technology...
we also saw some of the other babies in our world...my cousin's daughter, and my beautiful friend beth's daughter maggie...maggie and iona seemed to co-exist well..eating rocks and leaves together..the road to true friendship..
back home the weather has been strange...-15 last week for a couple of days and then 40 for the last two...it is nice to get a hint of spring to keep you from permanetely moving south...we have had good snow too so there have been several days of good snowshoeing (despite the near-rumble we had with the cross-country skiers, who knew there was such a faction between winter sport enthusiasts)..today it is near 40 and cloudy but we have thrown open the windows and will be out the door soon...ernie loves this type of weather because the snowmelt reveals all sorts of yummy treats....pizza bones, half eaten chicken wings (apparently alot of people eat chicken wings while the wait for the bus, the bus stop outside our house is always lousy with chicken wings)..he even once found a hamburger and a dead cat...treasure!
her highness beckons...more adventures to follow....
